Nix the Hawaii Vacation

Good-bye (*sob*) week-long vacation in tropical paradise where everything is pineapples and kisses. Good-bye cute red bathing suit (that I was scared to wear in the first place). It was nice to plan for a second honeymoon while it lasted, but unfortunately we decided we can't do it financially (wwhhhhhhhyyyyyy) and can't afford the time away from our work (nooooooooo) and school (save meeeeee!) commitments. You were all so sweet to help with my (obsessive/anal/scary) planning.

Instead, we're looking for a vacation closer to home that will take less time (are we nuts?) and cost less money (score!)

My latest obsession is Santa Fe, which looks very pretty and relaxing, with a vibrant art scene that includes the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. Sedona is also on the list, because I've never seen red rock country before since I grew up among forests and am now surrounded by water and sand.

One day, we'll make it to Hawaii (before we have kids please!) In the meantime, I can manage reading by the pool. In a not so scary bathing suit.

We went to Santa Fe on an impromptu vacation for two days (more like 36 hours!) and it was a nice amount of time! I bet in two or three full days you could get a lot out of it. It was different from any city I had experienced, so uniquely American (adobe) but felt so European, as well. Very old city... lit with luminaries at night... the Georgia O'Keefe Museum is free the first Friday of the month after 5 (6?) p.m. which we discovered by accident, so that's one way to save! I recommend it for feeling like you're far away for a short vacation!

I'm sorry, Mo. I really hope you get that dream vacation in Hawaii soon and that it'll be ever bit of a dream as you've pictured it. For now, though... Santa Fe is exciting! I've never been, but a friend of mine studied there. It sounds like a really great place.. I can't wait to hear all about it from you!

I'm sorry to hear about the cancelled vacation plans, but at least you'll be going somewhere. I still think you should wear the red bathing suit though. And I've never been to Santa Fe but I'm only heard good things.

You will definitely make it to H'awaii some day. Ooh Santa Fe sounds like a lot of fun!

Sad face for Hawaii, but vacation is still vacation! Arizona is really pretty too. How about a Grand Canyon visit, and Scottsdale?

Thanks for the support everyone--for sure, a vacation is a vacation!

@Petite Cabbage Press: luminaries at night! Adobe architecture! It's good to hear you enjoyed your weekend there, I have not met anyone in real life who has actually been before!

@MayLove: I have yet to see the Grand Canyon, but I do want to visit one day because I see a lot of photos of it for my job.

@ruthy ann: yeah, adulthood can bite sometimes. I wonder how my parents managed to take care of us all!
I am a subscriber of LivingSocial Escapes. :) I was looking into the latest NM excursion, but it said you have to use it by May, and we're looking at June. :(

Mo- well, you've still never met anyone 'in real life' that has been before ;)

I imagine either area would get pretty toasty by June. Go to whichever one is supposed to be cooler!

I love hearing about people's vacations/planning...

I'm sorry about Hawaii, that's a disappointment. Sedona is supposed to be amazing, though.

I've always wanted to go to Santa Fe. And going somewhere closer to home is a lot less stressful! Have fun planning and vacationing!

Oh no, that sucks! But at least you're planning to go somewhere anyway. I think Santa Fe sounds lovely - liking the art scene bit!
