Moving Up In Life

[Really blurry photos from my iPhone of the before (run while you have a chance!) and after (thank god all that we have left to move is the cat) of our apartment]

We have a new apartment (above is the old one) and it seems to have done the trick to kick me out of my rut. I love having this new project to make our apartment livable (I see weeks of unpacking and moving furniture around) and homey. The doldrums of getting up, going to work, coming home exhausted and doing homework half asleep, and then going to bed way too late and doing it all over again, has been gnawing at my happiness. Who knew buying a new shower curtain and reorganizing my books by genre would provide so much satisfaction?

There's also something about moving until 2 in the morning on an empty stomach, and then having the boy cheer me on and buying me the most gigantic plate of nachos at 3, that elicits this warm fuzzy feeling about our marriage.

Have you moved much? Do you have an amazing mass of stuff that you're unaware of like me?

Oh look, see, you had a cat in the corner that you never knew was there ;)

When we moved last we basically left all of the furniture and half our stuff on the sidewalk or gave it away for free on craigslist. Sometimes we regret it, but thus was the need to GET RID OF THINGS above finding buyers. We moved from Boston to Portland, OR with only our tiny car and whatever fit in it. I think it was equal clothes, kitchen things, and art supplies. But it felt good to get rid of things.

Yea... we moved into our house December 09, and have yet to finish unpacking, painting or decorating some of the rooms. AKA- we are el sucko.

I used to move all the time in college -- every 6 months or so it felt like. Now, well, it's nice to be in a place for two years. And I love that there's nothing in the second photo but your cat.

On average I've moved twice a year since I was 18. I've learned how to get rid of everything since moving became such a pain!

congrats on your new place!

Oh, yes.. I've moved a ton. I was actually quite proud to have my entire "life" fit into 10 normal-sized boxes. Especially after seeing all my parents had accumulated over the years! Hopefully that box number doesn't get TOO much bigger as life goes on. I hope your move turns out to be all that you hope for and more.. I can't wait to read all about it! : )

Great progress - I dread moving!

we've moved a couple of times internationally and each time we marvel at how much we own! *sigh* and each time we tell ourselves we'd start afresh and live simple!!

we now own things in 3 different countries and enough furniture to fill 4 homes!! good job on the moving!!

That sounds exhausting! As you know, I've mostly moved across countries (US, France, Singapore, England) which may have been easier since I had less stuff. We have gained a bit in our first apartment here though so we'll see!

Thanks everyone! :)
I vow to keep the clutter out, let's see how long that lasts! Photos of new apartment hopefully to come soon.

@Petite Cabbage Press: lol! Our poor cat managed to survive the rubble of our possessions, poor kitty.
