Fabric Backdrop Options

I've been brainstorming with our photographer about fabric backdrops for our photo station.

I have to find a way to securely hang fabric at the venue, so if any of you out there have experience with this, I'd love to hear it! There are not many trees and it's all outdoors, so I'm starting to think we have to create something out of PVC pipes. Did I mention I don't even make my own IKEA furniture? This wedding is really flexing my limits.

I know you haven't seen them yet, but the Liberty fabric (above) totally matches our save the dates and is just perfect!
It's so pretty, but would cost me $38 a yard {insert wide-eyed face here} and unfortunately, we need more than one yard!

Repro Depot has some pretty fabrics.

IKEA is also an option, and I'm liking the sound of $5.99 a yard more than $38 a yard!

I've also looked at Urban Outfitters, which has some nice bedspreads which would work.

Anyone have any building tips for our photo backdrop? The fabric is going to be on the floor, so I'm thinking it has to be about 10 ft. long.

Hey Mo!

I might be telling you stuff you already know, so ...

Some of my favorite fabric sites are Fabricworm (http://www.fabricworm.com) and Whipstitch ( http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6442881) Generally speaking for Anna Marie Horner, Amy Butler, Alexander Henry, et. al, fabrics, you're looking at about $8/yard. Most of the cotton stuff is is going to be 44'' wide. Home decor weight stuff, which will be heavier, will be about 54'' wide.

Check out designs by Anna Marie Horner (especially her Good Folks collection and maybe some of the Midwest Modern line by Amy Butler. There's TONS of cute stuff out there. Good luck!

@Noodles: Hi Ashley! I am a fabric newbie so I did not know about any of these, thank you for sending them over! I'm especially loving all the stuff at Anna Maria Horner's website. Funny, there's even one called "July Wedding"!: http://store.annamariahorner.com/julywedding.html.

We (and by "we" I mean my fiance) need to figure out the same thing -- how to hang up the fabric! I am not good at those things...I'll let you know if he comes up with something clever. :)

oooh, i'm not sure i have any tips but i really like all the patterns you picked out. urban outfitters has a ton of very cool tapestries that would work (like the one you picked) and ikea is always an affordable choice. good luck!

Hey! check out purlsoho.com for some amazing fabric choices. I am addicted to beautiful fabric and have quite the collection started right now. I agree with noodles about the fabric designers she listed. Also check out Heather Bailey, Heather Ross, and Denyse schmidt. If you look at home decor weight you can find widths not only 54" (although it is standard) but even approx. 100"wide. (typically found at interior design/home showrooms)

Ooh, those are all gorgeous! I have no idea how to make a stand, or where to find great fabric, but it seems to me like you've been doing great on your own so far!
